Grad Named to Prestigious TR35

Vera Sazonova, a 2000 graduate of Ole Miss with degrees in computer science and physics, was named to Technology Review magazine's TR35 list for 2009. This list honors "young innovators whose inventions and research" the editors "find most exciting" and who are "under the age of 35".

Sazonova, who has also earned a PhD in physics from Cornell University, works at the National Research Council of Canada. Technology Review cites Dr. Sazonova for making the world's smallest microelectromechanical system, "a tiny resonator that consists of a single carbon nanotube suspended over a silicon gate." According to the article, "potential applications include ultrasensitive motion detectors, sensors that can detect the mass of molecules, and even devices for detecting gravitational waves."
