PacketStorm Donates WAN Emulator and Software

The WAN Emulator is a Hurricane III IP network emulator from PacketStorm. It can easily filter out, impair and modify different types of packets, and emulate different events and behaviors of the wide area IP network (e.g., the Internet) such as various network delay/jitter as well as packet loss rate and pattern, which can be very useful for testing and evaluating a network application to make sure that the application performs as designed. To our department, the emulator can also be integrated with designed projects for networking courses to help students better understand important computer network principles such as reliable data transfer. It can also help with our computer network research on testing and improving our novel protocol designs for various wide area network applications such as multi-party big data streaming and large file sharing.
