Chancellor Dan Jones recently announced that Dr. Dawn Wilkins is promoted to the rank of Professor of Computer and Information Science, effective July 1, 2012.
Dr. Wilkins joined the Department faculty in 1995 shortly after receiving a PhD in computer science from Vanderbilt University. She quickly established herself one of the Department's most respected and popular teachers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has also built an active research program in bioinformatics and computational biology with collaborators across campus and among the other institutions in the region. She has served the Department and its students in many roles including advisor, Graduate Program Coordinator, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, and faculty advisor for the ACM student chapter.
According to Dr. Conrad Cunningham, Department Chair, "Dr. Wilkins is the probably Department's most effective faculty member. In many ways, she has been the heart and soul of the computer science department for the past 17 years!"
Congratulations Dr. Wilkins!
