Fall 2010 Senior Project Ideas Solicited

The Department solicits ideas for Computer Science Senior Projects for Fall 2010. If you have a project to suggest and that you would like to sponsor, contact the instructor, Ms. Cynthia Zickos, at cbzickos@olemiss.edu or 662-915-7784.

Currently, Zickos is assembling a file of project ideas to suggest to the students when they return to campus on August 23. Each student in the Department's capstone project course CSci 487 selects a project during the first two weeks and then works on the analysis, design, and implementation of the selected project throughout the semester. The project results will then be presented and delivered near the end of the semester.

A project should involve an amount of work equivalent to what would be expected of a first or second semester Senior in a three-hour course and be something that can reasonably be achieved within of the Fall semester. A project may involve any aspect of computing, but should certainly involve nontrivial programming or the integration of existing software and hardware components.

We welcome web applications provided they involve more than static pages (plain HTML).

The projects can be exploratory or investigatory -- in other words, they do not have to result in the delivery of a finished computer program.

Our students are usually most comfortable working in the Java programming language, but they will be encouraged to consider projects to be implemented in other programming languages if appropriate to the project.

According to Department policy, the student cannot receive pay for the work.
