Department of Computer and Information Science

Software for Students

Lab Software

The department uses a lot of free and open source software on our servers and in our labs. This list shows all software installed in the labs. All open source and otherwise free software on the list have links to where they can be downloaded from.

MSDN AA

The department is a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance. MSDNAA is a Microsoft program that allows us and our students to use a variety of Microsoft products. These products include all Microsoft operating systems and Visual Studio .NET 2005. Students wishing to take advantage of this program should see the network administrator.

Mathematica

The University has a site license for Mathematica. This means all students can get a free copy of Mathematica to put on their own computers. For details see this page.

Low Cost Software through the University

The University now has a deal with Microsoft that allows all students to buy heavily discounted copies of several Microsoft products such as Office. For instance, Office 2007 Standard can be purchased for around $50. Also, the University has free Symantec Antivirus software available for students. Both programs can be accessed from here.
