Computer Science Seminar Series

C# and the .NET Framework

Friday, April 15th, 3:00pm

Weir Hall, Room 235

Presenter: Navanath Prabhudessai

The goal of C# is to provide a simple, safe, modern, object-oriented, Internet-centric language for .NET development. C# is a new language, but it draws its features from languages evolved in past three decades and is primarily influenced by Java, C++ and Visual Basic. The .NET framework not only supports language independence, but also language integration. In other words, it is possible to derive from the types written in one .NET language and use it seamlessly in another .NET language.

The focus of this seminar is not to master the C# syntax or understand the OO concepts of the language, but to primarily focus on its differences and features as compared to other contemporary OO languages. During the seminar we will also delve into the .NET framework and CLR's salient features and make an attempt to explore the Hows and Whys of the technology.
