Smalltalk: Back to the Future
Wednesday, March 9th, 3:00pm
Weir Hall, Room 235
Presenter: Jerry Bell
Smalltalk is a pure object-oriented programming environment. Many of
the features we now see in mainstream programming languages such as
Java were present in early Smalltalk environments over 25 years
ago. Smalltalk is living proof that a small set of powerful ideas can
be applied to create very sophisticated systems.
We will briefly cover the history of Smalltalk and review the
language. We will then introduce Squeak, an exciting Smalltalk
implementation. Squeak is a free, open source, cross platform
Smalltalk with many features interesting to computer scientists,
educators, and end users.
