A major in computer science is available through the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree program offered by the College of Liberal Arts.

Computer Science

  • CSCI 111, Computer Science I
  • CSCI 112, Computer Science II
  • CSCI 211, Computer Science III
  • CSCI 223, Computer Organization and Assembly Language
  • CSCI 423, Introduction to Operating Systems
  • CSCI 433, Algorithim and Data Structure Analysis
  • CSCI 450, Organization of Programming Languages
  • CSCI 487, Senior Project
  • 9 credit hours of approved 300-level or above computer science electives

Note: Students planning graduate study in computer science should include CSCI 311 among their electives.

Electrical Engineering

  • EL E 335, Principles of Digital Systems
  • EL E 336, Digital Systems Laboratory I

Mathematics

  • MATH 261, Unified Calculus and Analytical Geometry I
  • MATH 262, Unified Calculus and Analytical Geometry II

  • Two courses from one field (6 to 8 credit hours)
  • One course from a different field (3 to 4 credit hours)
  • Two of these courses must have a laboratory

English

  • 12 credit hours
  • ENGL 101, English Composition I
  • LIBA 102, First Year Seminar, or ENGL 102, English Composition II
  • Two ENGL 22x literature courses chosen from 221, 222, 223, 224, 225, or 226

Modern or Ancient Language

  • 6-12 credit hours (6 hours at or above the 200 level)
  • Languages offered include Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Ancient Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
  • 101 Elementary Language I (skipped if background appropriate)
  • 102 Elementary Language II (skipped if background appropriate)
  • 201 Second Year Language I
  • 202 Second Year Language II

History

  • 6 credit hours
  • HIS 101-102 strongly recommended.
  • Other choices might be European History or HIS 105-106 United States History.

Social Sciences

  • 6 credit hours
  • Courses from Anthropology, Economics, Journalism 101, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology

Humanities

  • 3 credit hours
  • Courses from African-American Studies; Classical Civilization; Gender Studies 103, 201, 333, 311, 390; Philosophy; Religion; and Southern Studies 101, 102

Fine or Performing Arts

  • 3 credit hours
  • Courses from Art History, Dance, Music, and Theatre Arts
  • Studio and workshop courses cannot be used
  • Acceptable courses: AH 101, 102, 201, 202; MUS 102, 103, 104, 105; Dance 200; Theater 201

Minor Field

  • 18 or more credit hours of courses depending upon area chosen (see the Liberal Arts section of the catalog for descriptions of minors)

Overall

  • Minimum of 124 credit hours
  • One-third of total hours must be at the 300 level or above
  • Minimum 2.00 Grade Points for all ABCDF grades credit hours.
  • Acceptable standard of English for all work at the Junior/Senior level.
  • 18 hours in residence
